يتجه العالم المتقدم اليوم نحو المصادر البديلة "المتجددة" مثل الطاقة الشمسية وطاقة الرياح على اعتبار أنها مصادر غير ناضبة، ويعتبرون توليد الكهرباء من الطاقات الناضبة مثل البترول والغاز ضربا من السفه (خالد عمر، ٢٠١٢). كما أصبحت البيئة الآن محدداً عالمياً يفرض نفسه حيث أنه يؤثر على التعاملات الاقتصادية والتجارية بل والعلاقات الدولية المعاصرة، وبالتالي أصبح الاهتمام بالبيئة من أهم المقاييس لتقييم حضارة الدول وتقدمها؛ ومع ذلك يواجه العالم تحديا يتمثل في كيفية خلق توازن بين التنمية المستدامة وبين الحفاظ على البيئة. وحيث أن ضروريات المستقبل تستلزم البحث عن طاقة بديلة متجددة ونظيفة تتسم بالاستدامة وتخدم البيئة؛ فقد اهتدي العلماء إلى عدة مصادر متجددة تتوفر فيها الشروط السابقة على ومنها: الرياح، الشمس، المياه الجوفية....... إلخ. وفي ظل أهمية الحفاظ علي حق الأجيال القادمة في الثروة النفطية وجعل فترة الاستفادة من هذه الثروة طويلة بالقدر الكافي، وفي ظل تزايد استهلاك الكهرباء في مصر بشكل كبير؛ وبالتالي تزايد التكاليف الناتجة عن استخدام الوقود في توليد الكهرباء، وفي ظل أهمية تقليل الانبعاثات الغازية؛ فإنه يجب الاهتمام بتطوير مصادر الطاقة المتجددة في مصر والتي من أهمها الطاقة الشمسية.
The developed world today is heading towards alternative "renewable" sources such as solar and wind energy, considering that they are not depleted resources, and they consider generating electricity from depleted energies such as oil and gas as a form of foolishness (Khaled Omar, 2012). The environment has now become a global determinant that imposes itself as it affects economic and commercial dealings and even contemporary international relations. Consequently, concern for the environment has become one of the most important criteria for evaluating the civilization and progress of countries. However, the world faces the challenge of how to create a balance between sustainable development and environmental conservation. Whereas, the necessities of the future necessitate the search for alternative renewable and clean energy that is sustainable and serves the environment; Scientists have turned to several renewable sources that fulfill the previous conditions, including: wind, sun, ground water....... etc. In light of the importance of preserving the right of future generations to oil wealth and making the period of benefiting from this wealth long enough, and in light of the significant increase in electricity consumption in Egypt; Consequently, the increasing costs resulting from the use of fuel to generate electricity, and in light of the importance of reducing gas emissions; Therefore, attention must be paid to developing renewable energy sources in Egypt, the most important of which is solar energy.
