المستخلص: علم العلل من أدق علوم الحديث وأغمضها وأجلها، ولا يمكن للمشتغل فيه أن يتوصل إلى نتائج أقرب إلى الصواب إلا بعد استفراغ الوسع في جمع الطرق من مصادرها المختلفة، والوقوف على أقوال العلماء، ومعرفة أحوال الرجال، كتاب عمل اليوم والليلة من أهم الكتب وأوسعها التي جمعت الأذكار والأدعية التي وردت عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بشكل مستقل، وقد ذكر الإمام النسائي بعض العلل عن الأحاديث، ويعد الإمام النسائي من الأئمة المبرزين فمع إمامته بالحديث برز كذلك بإمامته في الجرح والتعديل، والنقد وبيان علل الأحاديث، ومؤلفاته خير دليل على ذلك. ومن أنواع العلة (المخالفة) وهي: التغاير الواقع بين الرواة عن شيخهم في سياق إسناد حديث ما أو متنه، وتكثر المخالفة ونقل حسب كثرة تلاميذ الشيخ وقلتهم، وهي تقع في الإسناد وفي المتن ومنها ما هو مؤثر، ومنها ما هو غير مؤثر. بلغت أحاديث دراسة البحث الموسوم بمرويات شعبة بن الحجاج التي أعلها النسائي بالمخالفة في كتابه عمل اليوم والليلة أربعة أحاديث الأول، والثاني المخالفة بين شعبة، وغيره من الرواة، وفي الثالث والرابع المخالفة بين الرواة عن شعبة.
