المستخلص: Soil is one of the most precious natural resources and the knowledge of soil resources of an area is vital for optimizing land use and any developmental activities. Remote sensing and GIS have emerged as extremely valuable tools to study the soil resources, their potential for various uses and problems. Qasab, AbouNaphoukh and EI- Matahir basins are considered as some of the most promising areas for the sustainable agriculture development in the Eastern Desert fringes of the Nile Valley, Sohag, Egypt. Hence, this study was undertaken to study some morphological and physical properties of this area using remote sensing and GIS techniques. False color composite (FCC) of Landsat ETM imageries were visually interpreted and incorporated with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) which generated from the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM). Different imaging interpretation units were identified and twelve representative soil profiles were chosen, exposed and morphologically examined by adopting standard procedure. In addition, the thematic layers of these data were generated using GIS. In the current Era of distinctive progress in information technology, such data can be handled, enhanced and exchanged by different users and authorities.
