المستخلص: A relatively new pervaporation membrane from sago starch was fabricated by using the solution casting technique. Homogenous and composite sago membranes were extensively investigated for separation of water from ethanol mixture in terms of permeation flux and separation factor. The composite membrane was prepared by casting sago solution onto polysulfone which was used as a porous support. The membranes were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and the morphology structure of the membranes was studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The effects of feed temperature and feed concentration were studied at different feed temperatures and concentrations. The results showed that when the feed temperature was increased the permeation flux increased and the separation factor decreased for both homogenous and composite membranes. On the other hand, as the feed concentration was increased, the permeation flux decreased and the separation factor was increased. It was found that the permeation flux increased from 150 g/m2 ×h at 30° C to 260 g/m2 ×h at 60° C for 95 wt% and the separation factor was 80 at same temperature.
