يتناول البحث بالدراسة والتحليل النزعة الغرائبية في الرواية العمانية المعاصرة ويتخذ من رواية (في كهف الجنون تبدأ الحكاية أنموذجا للتطبيق. ورواية في كهف الجنون تبدأ الحكاية، رواية قائمة على مثلث رأسه علمي السحر والتنجيم وضلعاه الخيال العلمي (علم الوراثة والتحوير الوراثي). ويقدم البحث إضافة في دراسة الغرائبية فجل ما كتب من الدراسات السابقة - حسب اطلاعي- في الرواية العربية عن العجائبية. كما تقدم الرواية "النموذج" إضافة في غرائبية الخيال العلمي والفلسفي والفني، وهي مجالات ينخفض رصيد الاهتمام بها في الروايات العمانية المعاصرة. وتوصلت الدراسة في أهم نتائجها إلى أن السرد الغرائبي هو البوابة الأولى للسرد العجائبي؛ لأن تجاوز قوانين الطبيعة والخروج عن سيرها يحتاج إلى قدرة على التقاط الغريب وصولا إلى إنتاج العجيب المستحيل. كما أن السرد الغرائبي في الرواية الحديثة يقدم تصورا خالصا للواقع على أرض الحدث ويستعين بغير المألوف من معطيات التراث والتاريخ والأساطير في بناء توليفة سردية يتمخض عنها بنية سردية تخترق الواقع. تمثل رواية (في كهف الجنون تبدأ الحكاية) النزعة الغرائبية في الرواية العمانية المعاصرة؛ فأحداث وشخصيات الرواية قائمة على الجانب الغرائبي.
The research explores the peculiar tendency of the contemporary Omani novels. It draws on the novel of Kahf Aljonoon (The Cave of Madness) as a practical example. This novel is based on three aspects: One involves magic and astrology; whereas, the other two dimensions are based on scientific fiction (genetics and modified genetics) This research adds to the field of peculiarity writing as most of what has been written on Arabic novels in this area, based on my readings, is all about the miraculous. In fact, the novel has contributed to the field of peculiarity type of writing, in regards to science fiction, philosophy and the arts. These are areas that hardly ever any significant research has given any attention to within the circle of the current Omani novels. The study has reached several conclusions. For example, this peculiar tendency of storytelling is the gateway to the fantasy narrative. This is because overcoming the rules of nature and stepping out from its norms requires an ability to catch what is peculiar and turning it to a style of impossible wonder. Moreover, this type of fantasy narration in the modern novel gives a new dimension of looking into reality, using data from myths, history and heritage to build up a new narrative combination, that could produce a narrative breaks the bounds of reality. The Cave of Madness represents this peculiar tendency in the current Omani novels as its protagonists and characters are meant to be peculiar.
