تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إلقاء الضوء على أهم المدن الإسلامية في القرن الأول الهجري مدينة البصرة أنموذجاً حيث ظهرت العديد من المدن الإسلامية والتي أدت أدواراً مهمة في مجالات عدة عسكرية وسياسية واقتصادية واجتماعية ودينية، ونالت هذه المدن اهتماما واسعا وعناية فائقة من قبل الجغرافيين والرحالة المسلمين، ومن هنا تكمن أهمية الدراسة في التركيز على مؤلفات الجغرافيين والرحالة، إذ قدمت مؤلفاتهم معلومات مهمة عن حياة هذه المدن من وصف جغرافي وتاريخي واجتماعي وحركة ثقافية، متابعين فيها خططها العمرانية من قصور ومساجد ومحلات أسواق وحمامات وقبور ومشاهد ومدارس وأربطة، فضلا عن ترجماتهم لعلمائها، وفقهائها، وانجازاتهم العلمية، وعلى ذلك اتبعت هذه الدراسة المنهج التاريخي التحليل للوصول لنتائج علمية، من خلال تتبع كتب الرحالة، وذلك لبيانهم لأهمية المدن الإسلامية اقتصادياً، وسياسياً، وفكرياً، محاولين إظهار محاسنها وفضائلها، وانطلاقاً من أهمية جبهة البصرة ودورها في التاريخ العسكري العربي الإسلامي كان لابد من دراسة علمية شاملة لهذه الجبهة من عدة جوانب، حتى نخلص لإبراز إرث هذه المدينة الفني بعطائه الحضاري ونتائج علمائه إضافة إلى دور المسلمين في فتحهم للمدن والعمل على نهضتها وحضارتها، حتى غدت منارة لطلاب العلم يفدون للتعلم منها خصوصاً العلوم الشرعية والعربية، وبناء على ما سبق ذكره، اخترنا أن يكون موضوعنا "البصرة من خلال كتب الجغرافيين والرحالة المسلمين".
This study aims to shed light on the most important Islamic cities in the first century AH, the city of Basra as a model, where many Islamic cities appeared, which played important roles in several military, political, economic, social and religious fields. Here lies the importance of the study in focusing on the literature of geographers and travels, as their books provided important information about the life of these cities from a geographical, historical, social and cultural description, in which they followed up their urban plans such as palaces, mosques, shops, markets, baths, graves, scenes, schools and ribat, as well as their translations of their scholars and jurists. And their scientific achievements, and accordingly this study followed the analytical historical method to reach scientific results, by tracking travelers’ books, for their demonstration of the economic, political, and intellectual importance of Islamic cities, trying to show their merits and virtues, and based on the importance of the Basra front and its role in the Arab-Islamic military history was essential. From a comprehensive scientific study of this front from many aspects, until we conclude to highlight the artistic legacy of this city with its civilization and the results of its scholars in addition to the role of Muslims in their conquest of cities and work on their renaissance and civilization, until it became a beacon for science students who come to learn from it, especially Sharia and Arabic sciences, and based on the above Mentioning him, we chose to have our topic "Basra through the books of Muslim geographers and travelers.
