This research investigates the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) contribution in achieving the sustainable development goals. MSW has always been a major problem and a potential threat to public health. Since, it disturbs the environment, and it can be a block to the economic development of an area because of the negative effect it presents. Hence, environmentally sound MSW management must go beyond the common safe disposal or recovery of wastes that are generated to the root cause of the problem by attempting to change unsustainable patterns of production and consumption. This implies the application of the integrated life cycle management concept that portrays a comprehensive and sustainable environmentally framework founded on a hierarchy of objectives and focused on the four major waste related program areas for a responsive MSWM system: waste minimization, maximizing environmentally sound waste reuse and recycling activities, promoting environmentally sound waste disposal and treatment techniques, and extending waste service coverage.
