المستخلص: بحث السبب في القرآن الكريم يهدف إلى بيان المعاني التي جاء عليها لفظ السبب في القرآن، وهي أربع معان: الباب، والطريق، والعلم، والحبل، والمعنى الاصطلاحي للسبب وأقسامه، ومنهج البحث هو استقراء الآيات التي ورد فيها لفظ السبب وعرض أقوال المفسرين فيها، ثم بيان أنوع الأسباب من حيث الإباحة والتحريم، وأمثلة ذلك في القرآن وضوابط الأخذ بالأسباب، ثم عرض صور من الأخذ المحرم بالأسباب متبعة في ذلك المنهج العلمي مع عزو الآيات والأحاديث والحكم عليها ما أمكن. وقد خلصت في بحثي إلى عدة نتائج هي: أن لفظ السبب ورد في تسعة مواضع من القرآن الكريم على أربع معان هي: الباب، والطريق، والعلم، والحبل، وأن الأسباب في مجملها على نوعين: أسباب مباحة دكر في القرآن أمثلة للأخذ بها والحث عليها، وأسباب محرمة تؤدي إلى الشرك ذكرت على وجه التحذير منها والتشنيع على فاعلها. وأن مما عمت به البلوى وشاع في زماننا انتشار صور من الأخذ المحرم بالأسباب والتي تقدح في عقيدة المسلم، وربما أدى بعضها إلى الشرك، فعلى المسلم الحذر والاستبراء لدينه عند الأخذ بالأسباب.

This research discusses causes in the Holy Qur'an to clarify the implicit meanings as reveled in the Holy Qur'an. Accordingly, those meanings can be classified into four types; the doorway, the way, knowledge and the connecting line. The research also handles the conceptual meaning of causes and their categories. The research follows the inductive approach based on reading the verses of the Holy Qur'an where the word cause is mentioned and the related statements of the scholars concerning their interpretations. Next, the research traces the types of those causes whether being permitted or prohibited supported with examples as well as highlighting the means that would lead to an end. After that, the research displays instances of following the prohibited causes based upon the scientific approach supported with the verses, Hadiths and wise sayings as far as possible. In the conclusion, the researcher has summed up the findings of the research. One of those findings is that the word "cause" has been found in nine instances in the Holy Qur'an and those instances can be classified into the doorway, the way, knowledge and the connecting line. In addition, those causes can be generally seen as either permitted or prohibited; the former should be sought and followed while the latter should be avoided and those who do them are sinners. Another finding is that what makes things worse in our time can be traced back to the instances where the prohibited causes are sought and followed something that would shake the foundation of the Muslim creed. Such violation would lead to disbelief. Hence, a Muslim should be cautious and loyal to his religion when seeking the means to an end.
