المستخلص: Connection with the cinema has pushed Mexican novelists to experience narrative themes and styles that contributed to the creation of innovative literature. In this work, we will examine the impact of cinema in the novel “The Death of Artemio Cruz”, one of the most representative works of Carlos Fuentes and the peak point in the course of the Seventh Art Influence in Mexican Narrative. The novel, which is marked by a notable innovation in term of narration level, is rich in techniques related to cinematographic discourse, which characterized important transformations, not only in the structure of the novel but also in the style. The purpose of these pages is to analyze these cinematographic techniques and the parallels between the novel “The Death of Artemio Cruz” and the movie “Citizen Kan”, in terms of presentation and evolution of prominent personalities in both works.

El contacto con el cine ha llevado a los escritores mexicanos a experimentar temas y procedimientos narrativos que han contribuido en la conformación de una literatura innovadora. En el presente trabajo se estudiará la influencia del cine en “La muerte de Artemio Cruzˮ, una de las obras más representativas de Carlos Fuentes, y un punto culminante en la línea de los influjos del séptimo arte en la narrativa mexicana. Fuertemente marcada por las innovaciones en el estatuto de la narración, la novela está preñada de técnicas propias del discurso fílmico que han materializado transformaciones importantes, tanto en su estructura como en su estilo. Lo que se pretende en estas páginas es analizar estas técnicas, así como el paralelismo que hay entre la novela y la película “Ciudadano Kaneˮ en cuanto a la presentación y el desarrollo de los protagonistas de ambas obras.
