|b Dealings with non-Muslims is one of the important issues in today's world, in which Muslims constantly contact with others (non-Muslims) in all areas of life. This requires an inclination on the part of Muslims to know the rules, principles and fundamentals governing this type of communication. This paper, therefore, attempts to investigate the process of communication between Muslims and non-Muslims, by collecting a number of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) Hadiths that demonstrate the prophet's treatment with non-Muslims. The collected Hadiths are related by Albukhari, and are analyzed from a jurisprudential perspective. This study draws upon an analytically inductive approach by tracing the prophet's Hadiths that present the manner through which he dealt with non-Muslims, which constitutes two analytical strands: the first is his dealings with disbelievers; and the second encompasses his dealing with Dhimmis. Findings reveal that permissibility is the fundamental principle in dealing with a non-Muslim, which is crystalized in a number of concepts, including compensation, rewarding, hospitality, saving a non-Muslim from killing, and contacting a conflicting non-Muslim for reconciliation.
