This story grows in the spatial incubator of the University of Mosul as it is a central space in the shores of the city of (Mosul), and this story ends tragically when she tells her lover Dalal And her husband (Raafat) was that she had a fleeting and unsuccessful relationship before her acquaintance with him with a person called (Loay), and when (Raafat) could not accept this matter and due to many psychological factors related to his personality, he ended up crazy, so he became the psychopath in a cafe after he met his friend (Wael) It is in a deplorable and miserable condition, the novel begins with the place and ends in the place, which makes the research look upon it as a spatial novel par excellence.

يحتل المكان موقعاً متميزاً في ترتيب عناصر النص الروائي بوصفه الحاضنة الرئيسة للحدث والشخصيات والزمن، لذا فهو المكون الأول من مكونات الفضاء السردي مع الزمن السردي والرؤية السردية، ورواية (مختل في مقهى) للروائي علي حسين زينل تشتغل على المكان المرجعي (مدينة الموصل) وتستمره استثماراً سردياً كبيراً، وتطرح الرواية عنصر المكان في قصة حب كبيرة بين شخصية (رأفت) وشخصية (دلال)، تنمو هذه القصة في الحاضنة المكانية الخاصة بجامعة الموصل كونها فضاء مركزيا من أفضية مدينة (الموصل)، وتنتهي هذه القصة نهاية فاجعة حين تصارح دلال حبيبها وزوجها (رأفت) بأنها كانت على علاقة عابرة وفاشلة قبل معرفتها به مع شخص يدعى (لؤي)، وحين لم يستطع (رأفت) تقبل هذ الموضوع وبفعل عوامل نفسية عديدة تخص شخصيته انتهى إلى الجنون، فصار هو المختل في مقهى بعد أن التقاه صديقه (وائل) وهو بحالة مزرية يرثى لها، تبدأ الرواية بالمكان وتنتهى بالمكان بما يجعل البحث ينظر إليها على أنها رواية مكانية بامتياز.
