إن لتراثنا الأدبي العربي جاذبية وهوسا لا ينفك يغري الدارسين والباحثين قديما وحديثا عن البحث في مكامنه وعوالمه الخفية التي تنطوي في جزء غير قليل منها على مفارقات ومتضادات اكتفت هذا التراث بمختلف صنوفه الأدبية التي انضوت تحت مضماري الشعر والنثر. ولعلنا لا نخطئ الصواب إذا قلنا أن انشغال معظم الدراسات الأدبية والنقدية ولاسيما القديمة منها بالبحث والاستقراء للنتاجات الأدبية المركزية أو الرسمية - إن جاز لنا التعبير- مثل تلك التي تستقصي الظواهر الأدبية والنقدية عند هذا الشاعر، أو ذاك، أو تلك الطائفة من الشعراء وسوى ذلك من الموضوعات التقليدية التي شغلت هؤلاء الدارسين عن البحث في الكثير من التيارات الأدبية والفكرية التي لا يكتمل تراثنا العربي بدون البحث في مكامنها، بل ومحاولة إقصائها في بعض الأحيان على الرغم مما اشتملت عليه من مكنونات ابداعية اسهمت في إغناء تراثنا الأدبي والنقدي في مختلف عصوره. وكانت ظاهرة انتشار العيارين والشطار بوصفهم فئة خارجة عن القانون وعن سلطة الدولة من أبرز الظواهر التي شغلت مجتمعاتنا العربية القديمة، ولاسيما مجتمع العصر العباسي الذي سبب إهمال السلطة لفئاته المعدمة والفقيرة في سلوكهم طريق العيارة والشطارة، سبيلا للتحقيق العدالة الاجتماعية التي أقرها التشريع الالهي والوضعي في آن. وقد رافق هذا النشاط السياسي لهذه الفئة الاجتماعية نشاط أدبي واسع ومنتن انطوى في مكنوناته على العديد من المفارقات والمتضادات ومنها المفارقة الدينية والأخلاقية التي نلمح وجودها في سيرهم وحكاياتهم البطولية والملحمية الشعبية، فضلا عن إشعارهم التي كشفت في كثير منها عن الجانب الوجداني لهذه الفئة ولاسيما المتصل منه بالتوجه الديني والاخلاقي الذي ما لبثوا يدافعون عن وجوده بل ورسوخه في سلوكياتهم وإن كانت تسير في إطار السلب والاغارة على فئة الأغنياء والميسورين وأصحاب النفوذ تحديدا، كونهم أحد أبرز عوامل تهميشهم واقصائهم. وعلى الرغم من أن الغاية لا تبرر الوسيلة إلا أن الواقع الأدبي لفئة العيارين والشطار يشير بشكل واضح إلى دور اجتماعي وديني لا يستهان به أداه أبطال انتموا إلى سير وحكايات هذا التيار الشعبي، اثروا في المجتمع تأثيرا إيجابيا من خلال رسوخ الوازع الديني والاخلاقي في نفوسهم، وإن كان في سلوكهم السلبي ما يثير في ذهن القارئ مفارقة عن كيفية الجمع بين هذين النقيضين: الاعتقاد بالدين والأخلاق من جهة والسلوك الذي ينفي هذا الاعتقاد من جهة أخرى. وهو ما حاولنا الايغال في كوامنه وصولا إلى ما يثبت أو ينفي هذا النوع من المفارقة في أدب العيارين والشطار.
