إن أهمية علم النقد تمكن في أنه يعين قارئ الأدب على فهم خصائصه الفنية، وتذوق عناصره الجمالية، وما ذاك إلا لأن وظيفته تتجلى في الحكم على جودة النصوص أو رداءتها، والمفاضلة بينها من خلال مدى التزامها أو بعدها عن القيم الجمالية البلاغية والذوق الأدبي. فانطلاقاً من هذه الأهمية كان هذا البحث الذي يدرس مسائل النقد من خلال كتاب (عيار الشعر) لابن طباطبا الذي يعد من المصادر النقدية الأولى التي كان لها مساهمة في وضع أسس النقد وأصوله، وقد زاد من قيمته شيئان: أحدهما أنه اشتمل على جانب تطبيقي إضافة إلى الجانب النظري، حيث طبق ابن طباطبا نظريته النقدية وآراءه الذوقية على نماذج ثرة من الشعر العربي، ليحتذي متعلم النظم بالمثال الجيد، ويجتنب القبيح منها، فيتضافر الجانبان النظري والتطبيقي في تمكين الناظم من إخراج شعر خالٍ من العيوب، سالم مما يشينه، وثانيهما: أن مؤلفه كان شاعراً يقول الشعر ويعانيه، فهو به أعلم، وبمواطن الجمال فيه أدري وأعرف، كما كان يمتلك حسا نقديا وذوقا أدبيًا رفيعا ظهر جليًا واضحا فيما عرض من آراء نقدية كانت محل اهتمام القدماء والمحدثين من النقاد.
The importance of the critique science lies in that it helps the reader of literature understand its artistic characteristics, and to appreciate its creativity and fine quality. Its function is to judge the quality of literature texts, and provide a comparison between them in the context of the finest artistic rubrics and aesthetic articulation. Accordingly, this research work provides a comprehensive study covering the critique methods covered by the Ibn Tabataba›s book (The Caliber of Poetry). The book is considered one of the pioneers in this area that had a contribution to laying the foundations and origins of critique science. The value of the book is further emphasized due to two reasons, one of which was that it included an applied aspect in addition to the theoretical side. The author applied his critique theory and his views to wealthy examples of Arabic poetry. This helps the learner to follow the good example and avoid pitfalls, so that the theoretical and practical sides join together in enabling the poet to produce a text free of defects and flaws. The second reason is that the author was a poet who writes poetry and lives by it, which gave him artistic sensitivity and aesthetic taste. He possessed a critical sensing capabilities and a high aesthetic skill clearly evident in his analysis of the different opinions that were of interest to the ancients and modern critics.
