يتناول موضوع البحث دراسة عن مدينة هرر والتي تعد من أقدم المدن القائمة إلى يومنا هذا في شرق إفريقيا، والتي كان لها دورا هاما في نشر الدعوة الإسلامية، فقد انطلق منها الدعاة والفقهاء ونشطت فيها الحركة العلمية والثقافية، كما نشطت فيها الحركة التجارية إذ كانت مركزا تجاريا هاما يربط طرق التجارة مع بقية بلاد الحبشة. ولمدينة هرر عدة ألقاب توردها كتب القدماء: فهي مدينة الصالحين، ومدينة الأولياء، فهي تحتوي على تسعة وتسعين مسجدا وما يزيد عن مائة ضريح، وقد وصفها بعض المؤرخين بالفردوس المنسي؛ لجمال طبيعتها ولأنها مدينة العلم والحضارة والثقافة والتجارة. وقد شيدت المدينة في موقع حصين على تل عالي يشرف على الوديان التي تحيط بها من ثلاث جهات، مما جعلها تتمتع بموقع استراتيجي هام.
The topic of study deals with the city of Harar, which is considered one of the oldest existence cities to this day in East Africa, and it had a great role in spreading the Islamic call, preachers and jurists started from it, and the scientific and cultural movement was boom in it, also the commercial movement was very active in it. Harar is an important commercial center which linking trade routes with the rest of Ethiopia. In 1427 AH / 2006AD, the UNESCO included the city of Harar in the World Heritage List as a historical and touristic city, and it won a prize from UNESCO in a ceremony held in Barcelona, Spain, for what it presented to the world as a model example to follow in peace and the peaceful coexistence between the followers of different civilizations and religions after their inhabitants suffered for long time of the ravages of the deadly wars between the Abyssinian Christians and Muslims. Harar has several names, namely: The Madinat Al-Salehin and Madinat of Awliya, as it includes ninety-nine mosques and more than a hundred mausoleums, some historians have described it as the Forgotten Paradise. This is due to its beautiful nature and because it is a city of science, civilization, culture and trade. The city was built in a fortified site on a high hill overlooking the valleys that surround the city on three sides, making it enjoy an important and strategic location.
