The 1868 famine was a real national tragedy with multiple consequences, as it increased the mortality rate, and it resulted in some dangerous social phenomena like migration and an important increase in number of beggars. French went bragging about what they have given to the “hungry “forgetting that they were the cause of their condition, some of them even used this “cry of hunger” to achieve their terrible projects like ""Missionary ""that found in this crises a new outlet especially with the efforts of Lavigerie. The writing mirror reflected the reality of Algeria during the years of “crisis” either local texts like the ones left by Mohamed EL-SALEH Ben EL-ANTRI or the French texts wrote by those who lived through “the famine” analyzing its effects based on some particular cases, or through the reports they gave the official authorities concerning the aid reserved to reduce this social phenomenon effects. Even though the writer of “Constantine famines” had compassion with the French efforts given to minimize the intensity of the problem and urged the other victims to appreciate the act of the French government, the French texts were full of criticism to the colonial policies followed to the same purpose, and they attacked the French possession characterized by stinginess compared with the magnitude of the Algerian tragedy. But in the same time it didn’t defend the indigenous. These texts gave terrifying scenes about hungry infants and oppressed orphans. A writer mentioned that no one in Europe ever knew the truth about what happened in Algeria."
