The meeting was in the house of singer Fatima Sarhan, in one of Cairo's old neighborhoods, where she provided a comprehensive vision of folk music, its arts and myths, stages of formation, its beginning, and how it fills the soul with sophistication, calmness and purification. About her beginnings, Sarhan recalls her birth in Bassioun, Gharbia, then moving to Cairo after being discovered by Zakaria El Higgawi. She started singing in the Egyptian radio in the 1950s, and was called "the queen of baladi". She got married to folk singer Attia Ismail El Safarti, and gave birth to the Egyptian singer Suzan Attia. She is currently supervis¬ing and training the Nile Group for Folk Singing which performs in many events. Sarhan is best known for the stories of "Kid Al Nisa (Women's De¬ceit)", "The Shrine of Khadra Al Sharifa", "Praise of the Prophet" and "On the Foil Leaves". She also participated in many films, including: lam the Doctor (1968), and Edge of the Sword (1986). Her last participation was in the series Joys of the Dome (2016). Fatma Sarhan talks about the art of maqamat, musical instruments, singers, the efforts of Zakaria Al Higgawi in the field of folklore, Egyptian composers, singing in halls and hotels, celebrity life, duet songs with great singers, her artistic journeys, her national songs, and her relationship with the artist Gamalat Shiha, about Mohamed Taha, Abu Draa, Metqal, the maddahin, and Gaber Abu Hussein whom she considers to have a unique style in playing the rababa.
