تتلخص مشكلة البحث في أن مصادر الطاقة التقليدية والتي تستخدم في توليد الطاقة الكهربائية في مصر قابلة للنضوب، فضلا عن ما تسببه من مشكلات التلوث البيئي، بالإضافة إلى الدعم المالي الذى تحصل عليه تلك المصادر، كان لابد من التوجه والتركيز على مصادر جديدة ومتجددة للطاقة لتفادى تلك المشكلات. وقد تعرض البحث لمفهوم وأهمية مصادر الطاقة المتجددة، وتحليل المصادر المختلفة للطاقة في مصر بالإضافة إلى استخدام النماذج القياسية في تحليل وتفسير العلاقة بين مصادر الطاقة وإجمالي إنتاج الكهرباء في مصر خلال الفترة ١٩٩٠ -٢٠١٢، وإن كانت النتائج أوضحت أن مصادر الطاقة المتجددة تمثل نسبة منخفضة في إنتاج الكهرباء في مصر، وأيضا انخفاض تأثيرها رغم معنويته، إلا أن البحث يرى ضرورة التركيز على تنمية مصادر الطاقة المتجددة من أجل إنتاج طاقة نظيفة مستقبلا وغير قابلة للنضوب بهدف تحقيق تنمية مستدامة.
The research problem that traditional energy sources which are used in electrical power generation in Egypt are subject to depletion, as well as what caused environmental pollution problems, in addition to the financial support it gets to those sources, it was necessary to focus on new and renewable sources of energy to avoid these problems. Search of the concept and importance of renewable energy sources have been exposed, and analysis of various sources of energy in Egypt in addition to use the econometrics model to analyze and interpret the relationship between energy sources and the total electricity production in Egypt (1990-2012), although the results showed that renewable energy sources represent a low percentage in electricity production in Egypt but it has a significant effect. Research to focus on the development of renewable energy sources for the production of clean energy in the future and not subject to depletion in order to achieve sustainable development.
