"الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى أله وصحبه وسلم... أما بعد .. فإن تدوين التاريخ ليس بالمهمة اليسيرة؛ لأنه يحتاج بين جمع للعلوم الشرعية والعقلية وغير ذلك، مع تجرد عن الهوى ودقة في التحليل وسعة أفق، ولذا لم يخض غمار هذا العلم إلا المتميز منهم من أهل العلم، ولم يكن علماء مكة بمنأى عن ذلك، فقد أسهم في تدوين التاريخ عددا كبيرا من أبنائها، منهم الشيخ عبد الستار الدهلوي، صاحب التصانيف المفيدة في تاريخ مكة وتراجم علمائها، وكذلك في التاريخ العام، ولعل كتابه ""نزهة الأنظار والفكر فيما مضى من الحوادث والعبر من هبوط أبينا أدم أبي البشر إلى القرن الرابع عشر""، أكد دليل على ذلك، فكتابه تاريخ مختصر، جمع فيه مؤلفه بين بداية الخليقة من إهباط آدم إلى الأرض، وحتى عام (١٣٤٣ه/ الموافق عام ١٩٢٤م). وقد تسنى لنا دراسة المخطوط""، وجذبتنا غزارة المعلومات وتفردها أحيانا والخاصة بمكة في القرن الثالث والرابع عشر الهجرين، خاصة وأن المؤلف عاصر الفترة، فكانت كتاباته عنها: شاهد عيان، ولسان حال، فجاءت صادقة في مبناها، ومعبرة في معناها، لقربه من الحدث، ومعايشته له، فارتأينا أن نكتب عن ""أوضاع مكة السياسية في القرنين (١٣-١٤ ه) من خلال نزهة الأنظار""، وقد تكونت لدينا خطة مكونة من المقدمة السابق عرضها، ومحورين، تناولنا في الأول باختصار التعريف بالمؤلف وكتابه، وجاء المحور الثاني معبرا عن موضوع البحث، وهو دراسة الأوضاع أسياسية في مكة وعلاقاتها بالقوى المحيطة بها من خلال القرن الثالث عشر والرابع عشر الهجري، وانهينا الدراسة بخاتمة شملت أهم النتائج والتوصيات."
