520 |b Discourse is considered one of the important elements in communication between people. Therefore, philosophers poured their interest in studying it and developing theories that deal with it scientifically, so that it would be easy for people to use it in their communication for the purpose of achieving their goals and getting to know him as recipients. Political discourse has become one of the most important axes of study at the present time due to the important role it plays in our lives. On the other hand, translation is the hope that enables people to exchange their thoughts and interests. In view of the importance of the aforementioned topics and the lack of studies dealing with the translation of power and ideology from the English language into the Arabic language, this study dealt with the translation of the English political discourse, especially the power and ideological strategies that politicians use to achieve their political goals. This study deals with the pragmatics function of these methods, which lies between the lines, and how translators perceive them to choose the appropriate equivalence for translating them into Arabic. In addition, this study aims to show the importance of power and ideology by analyzing the intentions of politicians in their use of some words and how to translate them in the most optimal way for them through the adoption of two models of analysis: the first is Fairclough’s model of Modality, and the second is the literal and free equivalence of Catford. This thesis hypothesizes that there is no clear differences in the pragmatic function between the Arabic and English of these strategies so the literal equivalence in translation is the most appropriate one.
