During the civil war, he was one of the most important leaders who achieved victory over the south and maintained the unity of the country, So when the war ended and the political and reconstruction phase began, the American people found in grant the only person who could maintain victory and go beyond the post-civil war with all its complexity, Especially the political and social ones, so they elected him president for two consecutive sessions (1869-1877), which is rarely enjoyed by US presidents, and indeed represented the presidential stage of the man of controversy among the number of the best departments in the country, And some of them considered it the worst for many reasons we mentioned during the research, perhaps from what the country experienced, historically known as the long recession, a critical stage in American history, during which the US economy has deteriorated significantly left its impact on various aspects of life in the country, especially political ones, These papers examine the causes of this crisis and the role of President grant in dealing with them in the hope that we understand the nature of the measures taken by the man in dealing with the crises experienced by the country under his administration, and we conclude a set of convictions that we mentioned in an independent conclusion.

حققوا النصر على الجنوب وحافظوا على وحدة البلاد، ولذلك حين انتهت الحرب وبدأ العمل السياسي ومرحلة إعادة الأعمار وجد الشعب الأمريكي في كرانت الشخص ربما الوحيد القادر على الحفاظ على النصر وتجاوز المرحلة التي تلت انتهاء الحرب الأهلية بكل تعقيداتها، لاسيما السياسية والاجتماعية منها، لذلك انتخبوه رئيسا لهم لدورتين متتاليتين (١٨٦٩ - ١٨٧٧)، وهو أمر قلما حظي به الرؤساء الأمريكيين، وبالفعل مثلت المرحلة الرئاسية للرجل دائرة للجدل بين من عدها من أفضل الإدارات التي شهدتها البلاد، ومنهم من أعتبرها الأسوأ لأسباب عديدة أتينا على ذكرها أثناء البحث، ربما من أهمها ما شهدته البلاد مما عرف تاريخيا الكساد الطويل وهي مرحلة حرجة في التاريخ الأمريكي شهد خلالها الاقتصاد الأمريكي ترديا كبيرا ترك تأثيره على مختلف جوانب الحياة في البلاد ولاسيما السياسية منها، ولذلك سنحاول في هذه الأوراق دراسة أسباب تلك الأزمة ودور الرئيس كرانت في معالجتها على امل أن نفهم طبيعة الإجراءات التي كان يتخذها الرجل في معالجة الأزمات التي شهدتها البلاد في عهد أدارته، ونخلص لمجموعة من القناعات التي أتينا على ذكرها في خاتمة مستقلة.
