What distinguishes terrorism from other forms of violence is that terrorism involves acts that are carried out dramatically to attract public attention and create a climate of terror beyond the victims who have been exposed to it. The identity of the victims is secondary or insignificant to the terrorists because their violence is directed at the people who see that violence. The distinction between the real victims and the target audience is the main parameter of terrorism that distinguishes it from other forms of armed conflict. The emergence of several variables occurred in the contemporary Arab reality and several conflicting ideologies, especially the capitalist ideology and communism and the establishment of the Israeli entity in the heart of the region. From here we found that terrorism is not just a protest against injustice and poverty, as some see it. May have its causes in the deterioration of economic and living conditions. But in the case of Islamic jihadism, especially its leaders and its leaders who exploit the miserable and the insane in their mad projects, it is a doctrinal and cultural root, just as it is a multi-faceted war against the citizen and the state as well as the civil society.

انتشرت في الآونة الأخيرة ظاهرة العنف وأدواته التي تستخدمها في محاولة إيجاد مكاسب شخصية أو سياسية أو أيديولوجية وغيرها من أشكال الصور المأساوية من قبيل الدم المستباح كالقتل والتدمير والهدم والخراب. إن العنف هو شكل وصورة وإطار لجميع المحركات لماكنة الحرب والمعارك والنزاعات، إذ تلازمت هذه المفردة والمعنى مع استعراض لتاريخ طويل من هدم المدن وسقوط الدول وانهيار الحضارات. أي ما بناه الإنسان والعقل البشري في مئات السنين حطمها العنف وأدواته في ساعات، حاول الباحث أن يدرس ظاهرة العنف في التاريخ العربي المعاصر، بعد مفاهيم الحداثة ومبادئ حقوق الإنسان والتعايش السلمي والتسامح الاجتماعي. السؤال الجوهري الذي يطرح: لماذا هذه الانتكاسة البشرية، بعد تاريخ طويل من الحضارة والنهضة العلمية التنويرية والثورة التكنولوجية، بل لماذا هذه الهمجية البربرية الوحشية التي تستخدم العلوم الرقمية والإنترنت، بلا خجل أو مستحى، وعرض هذه الصور على شاشات التليفزيون؟ إذن لابد من توفير إجابات عن هذا السؤال الكبير في مجتمع توارث روح الحضارة والنور والعلم، وبأسلوب علمي ومنهجي وموضوعي، في محاولة تشخيص الداء لمعرفة أنها عارضة على التاريخ العربي أم متأصلة فينا منذ القدم.
