The present study aimed to address the critical contribution of ‘Izz al-Din al-Amin and to shed light on the efforts he exerted in documenting the poetic and critical movements in Sudan and in the Arab World, both old and modern, making him one of the pioneers of literary criticism in the Arab World in general and in Sudan in particular. The study adopted a number of approaches as fit to serve the subject of the research, including the historical approach and the descriptive analytic approach in collecting and analyzing the data, and eventually came out with important findings, including the following:‘Izz al-Din al-Amin belongs to the first generation of Sudanese literary critics, and the pioneers like him often tend to pave the way to those who come after them, and hence contribute to the promotion of documentation in order to safeguard Sudan’s literary heritage. We observe this tendency very often in the critiques of ‘Izz al-Din al-Amin. Issues in Criticism – many of which he published in Sudanese newspapers and some of which were broadcast on local and international radios – are one of the most important contributions by ‘Izz al-Din al-Amin in poetic criticism, in which he explained its trends and sources. In his call for modernity, ‘Izz al-Din al-Amin, in fact, relies on solid authentic religious and linguistic grounds. In spite of his call for modernity, ‘Izz al-Din al-Amin is insistent on adherence to preserving the fundamentals on which art is based, which led him to accept the “taf‘īlah” – one foot – poem and rejects the prose poem. When poets and critics were confused about coining a term for the type of poetry which does not adhere to the meters of poetry set al-Khalil ibn Ahmed al-Farahidi, between the terms hurr (free), mursal (rhythmical, unrhymed), shi’rmanthoor(prose poetry), shi’r hadeeth (modern poetry), ‘Izz al-Din coined the one of the most important, and now widely used, terms: the “taf‘īlah” poetry. The study recommends paying more attention to the literature of the first generation of poets, critics and writers, so that the Sudanese literature may occupy an advanced position, which it does deserve, among nations.
هدفت الدراسة إلى تناول إسهام عزالدين الأمين النقدي، وما قام به من جهد في توثيق الحركات الشعرية والنقدية في السودان والعالم العربي قديما وحديثا، وإسهامه في تجديد الشعر، من خلال سك المصطلح، والدعوة إلى التجديد، ما يجعله رائدا في ميدان النقد العربي عامة، والسوداني خاصة. وقد اتبعت الدراسة عددا من المناهج بحسب ما يخدم قضية البحث، منها: التاريخي، والوصفي التحليلي. وخلصت إلى عدة نتائج، أهمها: يعد عزالدين الأمين من جيل النقاد الأوائل في السودان، وكثيرا ما يجنح الرواد إلى تعبيد الطريق لمن بعدهم، ولذا يعلون من شأن التوثيق حفظا للتراث، وهو ما نلاحظه كثيرا في نقد عزالدين الأمين. كتاب مسائل في النقد-والتي نشر أكثرها في الصحف السودانية، وأذيع بعضها من خلال الإذاعة المحلية والعالمية-من أهم ما كتب عزالدين الأمين في النقد، وبين فيه اتجاهاته ومصادره. ينطلق عزالدين الأمين في دعوته إلى التجديد من هوية متمسكة بالأصالة في الدين واللغة. على مناداته بالتجديد، فقد تمسك عزالدين الأمين بالمحافظة على الأصول التي يقوم على أساسها الفن، وهو ما جعله يقبل بقصيدة التفعيلة ويرفض قصيدة النثر. عندما اضطرب الشعراء والنقاد في سك مصطلح للشعر الذي خرج على البحور الخليلية بين الشعر: الحر، والمرسل، والحديث، والمنثور، سك عزالدين الأمين واحدا من أهم المصطلحات، بإطلاقه اسم: شعر التفعيلة. توصي الدراسة بالاهتمام بأدب الرعيل الأول من: الشعراء، والنقاد، والأدباء، حتى يأخذ الأدب السوداني موقعه بين الأمم.
