المستخلص: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط الضوء على الصحافة الإنجليزية في قطر لمعرفة حجم الدور الذي تقوم به في خدمة جمهورها من قراء الصحافة الإنجليزية وقياس النجاح الذي حققته في التوعية بجائحة كورونا والحد من انتشار المرض من خلال التعريف بالإجراءات الاحترازية التي اتخذتها الدولة والسياسات الإدارية في تسيير دولاب العمل بالدولة. واعتمدت الدراسة على منهج تحليل المضمون لتحليل المحتوى الاتصالي لصحف جلف تايمز والبننسولا وقطر تريبيون وهي الصحف الصادرة بالإنجليزية في قطر والتي تخدم جمهورا واسعا من الجاليات الأجنبية. وتضمنت فئات الدراسة التوزيعات النوعية للقضايا المنشور حول جائحة كورونا وأبعادها المحلية والدولية. وقياس مدى اهتمام الصحف موضوع الدراسة بالآثار الاقتصادية والاجتماعية بالجائحة. ويشمل ذلك أيضا تحليل مصادر المعلومات المحلية والدولية والموضوعات المنشورة واتجاهات السياسة التحريرية في مكافحة الفيروس. واهتمت الدراسة كذلك بالأشكال التحريرية المستخدمة في الحملات الإعلامية وتحليل المساحات الإعلامية المخططة حول جائحة كورونا لمعرفة درجة الاهتمام في نشر موضوعات التوعية الإعلامية حول الفيروس قياسا بالقضايا الأخرى. وقد خلصت هذه الدراسة إلى نتائج مهمة كونها الدراسة الأولى في قطر التي تتعلق بتحليل السياسات الإعلامية للصحافة الإنجليزية ومعرفة الدور الذي تقوم به في خدمة القائم بالاتصال وطبيعة الموضوعات التي تقدمها للجمهور والسياسات التحريرية إلى تتبعها. وفي ظل التأثير الواسع لتكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات وصحافة المجتمع يصبح من الضروري أن تقوم الصحافة الإنجليزية في قطر بدور مهم في دمج المجتمعات الأجنبية بمجتمعها المحلي وفي تحقيق اعلى درجة ممكنة من التواصل مع صناع القرار وقادة الرأي وصناع القرار في الدولة. ولا شك أن غياب المنبر الإعلامي الذي يوفر درجة عالية من التواصل مع هذا الجمهور سيدفعه إلى تلقي المعلومات من مصادر أجنبية بعيدة عن المجتمع المحلي. لقد كشفت الدراسة عن عدد من التوصيات الضرورية التي تسهم في تعزيز دور الصحافة الإنجليزية مما يجعلها وسيلة اتصالية فعالة في الحوار الثقافي والسلام المجتمعي والتعايش الفعال بين كافة أفرد المجتمع.

This study aims to shed light on the English newspapers in Qatar to find out the role these dailies are playing in serving their English readers. It will also measure the success they have achieved to raise public awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and limit the spread of the virus by publishing the precautionary measures and relevant administrative policies adopted by the competent authorities in the State of Qatar. The method applied in the study relied on content analysis to examine the informative content of the three Qatari English Newspapers; Gulf Times, The Peninsula, and Qatar Tribune. These newspapers continue to serve a wide range of expatriate communities in Qatar. The quantitative aspect of the study included the types of issues published about the Coronavirus pandemic at local and international dimensions and their distributions and space given. The study was also keen to measure how these newspapers showed interest in the pandemic's economic and social impacts. Nevertheless, this includes analysis of domestic and global information sources, published topics, and trends of editorial policy in the course of fighting against the virus. The study also looked at the editorial models used in media campaigns and the analysis of the media spaces allocated for coverage of the pandemic stories to underline the level of interest and keenness in participating in the awareness campaigns about the virus compared to other issues addressed by these newspapers. The study has come out with essential conclusions, as it is the first in Qatar to analyze policies of English media in the country, their role in meeting the interests of their audiences, topics they present to the public, and their editorial guidelines. Qatar's English press must play a crucial role in integrating expatriate communities and local society in light of the broad influence of information and communication technology and community journalism. This will achieve the highest possible degree of communication with decision-makers and public opinion leaders in the country. There is no doubt that the absence of a media platform that provides a high level of communication with this audience will drive expatriates to depend on foreign sources of information that could be irrelevant to the local community. The study revealed several necessary recommendations that contribute to strengthening the role of the English press, making it an effective tool for cultural communication, dialogue, enhancing social peace and coexistence amongst all members of society.
