Hagiographical writings are regarded as one of the most significant untraditional sources for the history of the Byzantine empire as such writings are regarded as a type of folklore religious story-telling written by priests and Byzantine religious people. Additionally, hagiographical writings include a large set of literature which is relevant to such biographies as well as including biographies of priests, superstitions, mythologies, miracles, holy visions, divine relics and religious church investigations. Despite their extended literal domains, hagiographical writings are still concerned mainly with biographies of priests. Significance of such writings lies in being very similar to the literature of folklore biographies, which provides unique and large material (data) about the daily life of the Byzantine society even if it is full of miracles and superstitions. Most significantly is that this type of literature reflects culture of this society, its thoughts, public opinions and its prevalent traditional and popular attitudes. This study aims at shedding light on hagiographical writings, their types, and the various methods of writing such divine texts. Moreover, this study aims to tackle how writers of hagiographical writings and their priests described their surrounding world especially concerning economical elements, and employing such elements in rewriting the economic history of the Byzantine Empire during this period. This rewriting of the Byzantine history could be performed through investigating texts of hagiographical writings in the Medieval Byzantine Era as well as attempting to extract economical information from the context of historical story-telling.
