المستخلص: The Tigray war in general is part of the same topics of the controversy that have dominated the Ethiopian political discourse since the establishment of the imperial state: Is Ethiopia really an exceptional country that should be governed in a more central way through the imposition of the Amharic cultural identity, or it is more appropriate to be governed in a non centralized way as a multi-ethnic and multilingual country. Perhaps the other main factor complicating this conflict is the role of external forces, which are unable to understand the deep historical roots of the current divisions in Ethiopian society. There is no doubt that the protracted conflict in the Tigray region will represent an important challenge to Ethiopia’s strategy in achieving a balance between the interests of external powers and its need for domestic investment. At the same time; the war will present new opportunities for these outside powers to strengthen their relationship with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. However; the continuation of armed conflict through a guerrilla approach may lead to an increase in the instability of Ethiopia and its regional environment. Accordingly; this study attempts, through the tools of the qualitative approach and the analysis of available data, to understand the nature of the conflict in the Tigray region and its regional implications, while shedding light on the possible paths in the future
