المستخلص: The use of digital technologies greatly contributes to growth and development. Because it increases productivity and work efficiency by enabling creativity, stimulating innovation, and most importantly, it helps penetrate global markets. It also allows the participation of all stakeholders in programs and projects regardless of their location and physical distance through reliable and available access to data and communication networks, in addition to a significant impact on business transformation, and the creation of new digital businesses, where the ability to create new products or services with high quality, less cost, transforming business into unimaginable entities. In other words, digital technology has changed the speed of operation in the economy by a way that the Internet and other digital devices have become an important economic resource for the country. In this context, the study aims to identify the challenges facing the South Africa government in its pursuit of a digital and connected society by 2030. The study dealt with digitization: concept and content, as it reviewed its various definitions, the three waves of digitization, touched upon the latest measurement indicator, and the state›s readiness to embrace digital technologies, and then examined how the decision maker seizes the digitalization opportunities. The study also dealt with some features of digitization within the continent, with a focus on South Africa by tracking policies to enhance the digital transformation of government and society, highlighting the most important challenges, and the extent of the contribution of digital technology to the country›s economy. The study found that digital transformation is not a one-time process, but rather it continues in the form of waves driven by technological developments and the diffusion of innovations, The study also found that the transition to the digital world is part of the economic reform process, enhances financial inclusion, and helps reduce corrupt practices. The study concludes that from the standpoint that a strong ICT infrastructure is an enabler for digital transformation, and that without the availability of affordable and widely broadband, and secure access to new technologies, government of South Africa may not effectively provide digital services, and enable citizens make use of them, it is likely to be accompanied by the digitization efforts other reforms without losing sight of the challenges facing the government of state. In other words, communications infrastructure in South Africa is an important driver of economic growth, yet there is still a need for advanced infrastructure by encouraging increased investment through public-private partnerships in order to provide easy access to broadband and/or new technologies.
