This article aims to review the studies and theses that were completed in the master’s and doctoral degrees on the history of sub Saharan African countries in the History Department at the faculty of African postgraduate studies, Cairo university, whether in the era of ancient, Islamic, modern and contemporary history. It is a very important topic for specialists in African history, in order to get acquainted with the topics that have been studied, distributed over the regions of the sub Saharan African continent: the West, the East, the South, and the Center. In order to achieve the benefit, we used several method, especially the descriptive, statistical, analytical, and inductive. Honorable professors in faculty, were keen to direct researchers towards studying all regions of the African continent and researching various topics according to the historical conditions of each region separately, its natural capabilities, its relations with other regions, the number of countries for each region, its area, and the nature of the imperialist competition witnessed by the regions, in addition to what is imposed by the nature of the available source material, and the possibility for researchers to obtain it. These circumstances have led researchers to pay more attention to studying the history of some countries in some regions, such as West Africa and East Africa, rather than studying other regions, such as South Africa and Central Africa, which have not received enough attention so far. In this article, we will monitor the trends of researchers in their studies, and the most prominent research issues they tackled, which show their diversity and richness, among the topics of political, economic, social and cultural history. These topics cover different time periods. It appears by reviewing the list of scientific theses discussed in the history section that they included important topics, such as: raw materials and important African commodities that contributed to a state of natural human movement, migrations, trade exchange, and trips, but unfortunately these riches were the reason for the emergence of the ambitions of European powers, And its frantic competition to control the countries of the continent, to plunder those wealth, in addition to studying this competition and the stages of imposing colonial control on Africa, then the national liberation movements and African resistance, and studying the role of national leaders in them. Some researchers also directed their attention to the study of relationships across different historical periods; Whether regional relations between African countries and some of them, or foreign relations with European or Asian countries and others. It is noted that we need to make more effort in studying social history topics, and pay attention to studying all countries in each region, as it was noted that there is a focus on studying specific countries within a region at the expense of the rest of the region’s countries
