African Studies occupy a considerable space in the research activity in the West, as it has a direct relationship with the dominance and assimilation project on which the new Western states rely on. In this regard, the present paper tries to follow the birth and the development of the African Studies in the West in general, and France in particular. It also attempts to indicate the volume of the African Studies in the West and the main issues that the Africanists are concerned with. After that, the present paper attempts to draw a comparison between the West and the Arab World in terms of the African Studies activities, then proposed some suggestions that might enhance the quality of the African Studies in the Arab World and contribute in bridging the gap between Africa and the Arab World
