المستخلص: Il s’agit d’une lecture sur l’évolution de la ville d’Alger dans le temps et dans l’espace. La première partie relate l’histoire évènementielle de la ville depuis les origines jusqu’à l’avènement de la colonisation française. La seconde partie raconte le passage du petit comptoir côtier créé par les premiers négociants phéniciens, vers une véritable Médina, qui n’a cessé de croitre durant l’époque ottomane, jusqu’à devenir un important centre urbain, hautement structuré et parfaitement adapté aux exigences de l’époque.

يمثل هذا المقال قراءة في التطور التاريخي لمدينة الجزائر من خلال الوثائق التاريخية والاكتشافات الأثرية. اعتمدنا في تقديم المعطيات الأساسية التي تبرز الأحداث التاريخية التي عاشتها المدينة منذ نشأتها إلى غاية فترة الاحتلال الفرنسي. هذا التاريخ مقترن بالتطور المادي المتمثل في المرفأ الذي أنشأه الفينيقيون على الساحل الغربي للمتوسط والذي تطور تدريجيا إلى أن أصبح مناءا فعليا في بداية الفترة العثمانية من جهة وتأثيره في حركية التعمير الخاصة بمدينة الجزائر من جهة أخرى.

It is a reading about the evolution of the city of Algiers in time and space. The first part relates the history of the city from the origins until the advent of French colonization. The second part tells speaks about the transition from the small coastal trading post created by the first Phoenician traders, to a real Medina, which has grown steadily during the Ottoman period, until becoming an important urban center, highly structured and perfectly adapted for the requirements of the time.
