المستخلص: يدعو البحث إلى النظر في خصيصة من الخصائص الصوتية للغة حمير، ألا وهي الإبدال فإنها بمعزل عن دراسة تختصها، وهو من سنن العرب في كلامها وله بواعثه وأسبابه، قال ابن فارس ((من سنن العرب إبدال الحروف، وإقامة بعضها مقام بعض، ويقولون مدحه ومدهه، وفرس رفل ورفن، وهو كثير مشهور))، وقد عزا بعضهم الأبدال إلى اختلاف اللهجات، وأرجعه آخرون إلى التطور الصوتي - وهو الغالب فيه - فتكون الكلمة الشائعة في الاستعمال هي الأصل، والأخرى هي التي حدث فيها التغيير، كتطور الجدث إلى جدف، والثوم إلى فوم، والصقر إلى سقر وزقر، والسراط إلى صراط. وقد وقع الأمران في لغة حمير، فبعض إبدالها هو مما اختصت به عن اللغات الأخرى، وحفظته عن اللغة الأم، وبعضه الآخر هو مما حدث فيه التطور الصوتي لأسباب عديدة، سنأتي عليها. وقد ارتأينا تقسيم البحث على أصول إنتاج الصوت من مخرجه، وستكون الصفات تبعا لتلك المخارج، واقتضى ذلك أن يكون في ثلاثة مباحث: الأول: الإبدال المتجانس: أي ما تجانس فيه الحرفان مخرجا. الثاني: الإبدال المتقارب: أي ما تقارب فيه الحرفان مخرجا. الثالث: الإبدال المتباعد: أي ما تباعد فيه الحرفان مخرجا. أما التأثير والتأثر بين الصوتين المبدلين فسنعرض له في ضوء تحليل الإبدالات الواقعة في لغة حمير، وما يحيط بها من تأثيرات بيئية. وفضلا عن ذلك أنبنى هذا البحث على مدخل ذكرنا فيه أهم المميزات والخصائص العامة للبيئة.
