شهدت شبكة الإنترنت نموا ملحوظا بفترة التسعينيات من القرن المنصرم، وصاحب هذا التطور الكبير تطور واسع في وسائل الإعلام كافة، حيث يعد من أهم مظاهر هذا التقدم التكنولوجي هو انبثاق مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي كالفيس بوك ويوتيوب وتويتر وغيرها من المواقع، إذ تمكنت تلك المواقع من جلب الملايين من المستخدمين في مختلف أصقاع العالم ومن فئات عمرية متباينة. أصبحت مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي جزء لا يتجزء من حياة الأفراد اليومية، حيث أن العراق لم يكن بمعزل عن هذه التطورات في المجال الإلكتروني فقد ازدادت نسبة الاستخدام زيادة ملحوظة في السنوات الأخيرة، لاسيما في ظل الانفتاح الذي حصل بعد تغير نظام الحكم فيه ورافق ذلك حرية مفرطة في نشر المعلومات والأفكار المختلفة، فضلا عن غياب التشريعات التي تحد من ذلك الاستخدام وفرض بعض الإجراءات التي بدورها تقيد حرية الأفراد إلى حد ما، وبما إن لكل استخدام آثاره الجانبية سواء كانت سلبية أو إيجابية فقد عمد الباحث إلى إجراء دراسة ميدانية بعنوان "استخدام الجمهور العراقي لمواقع التواصل الاجتماعي وانعكاساتها على العلاقات الأسرية" للتعرف على مدى تأثر تلك العلاقات جراء ذلك الاستخدام من حيث تأثيره على الترابط الأسري والحفاظ على العلاقات والروابط الاجتماعية، حيث أجريت الدراسة على عينة من جمهور مدينة بغداد.
The Internet witnessed remarkable growth in the nineties of the last century, and a wide development in all media accompanied this great development. One of the most important manifestations of this technological progress is the emergence of social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other websites, as these sites have been able to bring millions of users in different parts of the world from different ages groups. Social networking sites have become an integral part of the daily lives of individuals, as Iraq was not isolated from these developments in the electronic field. The percentage of use has increased significantly in recent years, especially in light of the openness that occurred after the change of the system of government in it, accompanied by excessive freedom in the dissemination of information and various ideas, as well as the absence of legislation that limits that use and the imposition of some procedures that in turn restrict the freedom of individuals to some extent, and since each of the use has its side effects, whether negative or positive, the researcher conducted a field study entitled "The Iraqi Public's Use of Social Networking Sites and Its Repercussions on Family Relationships" to identify the extent to which those relationships are affected by that use in terms of its impact on family bonding and maintaining social relationships and ties.
