|a يهدف البحث إلى دراسة ما أورده الرحالة الأجانب الذين زاروا العراق في كتاباتهم ومدوناتهم عن الحياة الاقتصادية لمناطق العراق المختلفة، على الرغم ما يشوبها بسبب أن بعضها يعد انطباعات فردية وتحليلات شخصية دونت من قبل أشخاص لهم توجهات معينة أو مدارس فكرية ومعتقدات روحية مختلفة، فضلا عن أن بعضها تصطبغ بالسطحية في تفحصها لأمور، وعلى الرغم من ذلك عدت تلك الكتابات من أهم مصادر كتابة التاريخ والتي شغف الباحثون بدراسته والنهل منها.
