المستخلص: "يهدف هذا البحث إلى إلقاء الضوء على أحد الأمراض المزمنة التي عانى منها بعض المرضى من الطبقة الثرية من المجتمع الروماني بصفة خاصة في معظم ولايات الإمبراطورية الرومانية، ألا وهو مرض النقرس (Gout Ποδάγρα) وقد كان سبب اختياري لموضوع البحث حيث أن مرض النقرس من أشهر الأمراض الطويلة الأمد، ومتكررة في العصور القديمة، وقد ورد ضمن العديد من الأمراض في المصادر الطبية، والتاريخية، والوثائق البردية بصفة عامة، ولم يفرد له بحثا خاصا به يتتبع بالدراسة أسباب الإصابة به، وطرق علاجه لذا كان حجر الزاوية في هذه الدراسة تتبع ذلك من خلال عرض ما ورد في تلك المصادر من الأعمال الطبية للأطباء، والعاملين في مهنة الطب من غير الأطباء، وخاصة في العصر الروماني التي تشرح، وتوضح المقصود بالأمراض المزمنة، ويرجع الفضل في إثراء المادة العلمية للبحث إلى مكتبتي الجمعية الملكية للطب ومكتبة الأدوية بلندن –ببريطانيا -بخصوص المصادر والمراجع الخاصة بالجانبين الطبي، والتاريخي معا حيث أنها لم تتوفر في كثير في مواقع البحث الخاصة بالتخصص، وذلك ما مكنني من تتبع الأمراض الحادة التي يعتبر مرض النقرس واحدا منها بالإضافة إلى المصطلحات العلمية الطبية الدالة عليه، وأيضا أسباب الإصابة به، وطرق علاجه، وكيفية التعامل مع المرضى الذين يعانون منه وسوف يتم إيضاح ذلك بالتفصيل من خلال عناصر البحث. تتكون هذه الدراسة من مبحثين الأول منهما يتناول تعريف مرض النقرس لغويا، واصطلاحا حسبما ورد في المصادر اللغوية مع إيضاح المقصود من كلمة مرض مزمن في العصور القديمة، والوقت الحالي، ثم يلي ذلك التعرف على أسباب الإصابة به، وكيفية تشخيصه. المبحث الثاني: -يوضح طرق العلاج في جميع المراحل المرضية التي يمر بها المريض، والوصفات العلاجية المتعددة سواء من دهانات، أو ضمادات، أو أحجية أو العلاج الروحي ثم العلاج بالحجامة، ويلي ذلك الخاتمة في نهاية البحث لتسجيل أبرز ما توصل إليه البحث من نتائج."

" This research aims to shed light on one of the chronic diseases suffered by some patients from the wealthy class of Roman society in particular in most of the states of the Roman Empire which is Gout (Ποδάγρα) and it was the reason for choosing the subject of research as gout is one of the most famous diseases. It has a long duration and recurs in antiquity and it was mentioned among many diseases in medical sources historical and papyrus documents in general it did not single out a research of his own that traces the causes of his infection, and ways of treating it so the cornerstone of this study was to follow that by presenting what was mentioned in those sources from the medical work of doctors and non-physicians working in the medical profession, especially in the Roman era which explains Explain what is meant by chronic diseases. The credit for enriching the scientific material of the research is due to the libraries of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Library of Medicine in London- Britain- regarding the sources and references for both the medical and historical aspects as they were not available in many of the research sites for the specialty which enabled me to track acute diseases that are considered Gout is one of them in addition to the scientific medical terminology indicating it as well as the causes of its infection methods of treatment and how to deal with patients who suffer from it. This will be explained in detail through the elements of the research. This study consists of two sections The first which deals with the linguistic definition of gout and its terminology as stated in the linguistic sources with an explanation of the word chronic disease in ancient times and the present followed by identifying the causes of its infection, and how to diagnose it. The second topic:- It explains the treatment methods in all the stages of the disease that the patient goes through and the multiple treatment prescriptions whether from paints, bandages puzzles spiritual therapy and then cupping therapy followed by the conclusion at the end of the research to record the most prominent findings of the research from the results."
