المستخلص: Sententious statements occupy an important place in the field of linguistic approaches because they are the privileged place where collective representations spring up and they fulfill various social and cultural functions in everyday life. Starting from the idea that behind the words, there are other words, and, questioning the origin of the sententious statement, the latter is characterized by its exteriority in relation to the speaking subject. In this perspective, our article emphasizes the argumentative and polyphonic aspect of the proverbial statement. Our work and our research questions revolve around the polyphonic and argumentative effect and reflection of sententious discourse, in Yasmina Khadra's novel What the day owes to the night.

Les énoncés sentencieux occupent une place importante dans le domaine des approches linguistiques car ils sont le lieu privilégié où jaillissent les représentations collectives et ils remplissent des fonctions sociales et culturelles diverses dans la vie quotidienne. Partant de l'idée selon laquelle derrière les mots, il y a d'autres mots, et, s'interrogeant sur l'origine de l’énoncé sentencieux, ce dernier se caractérise par son extériorité par rapport au sujet parlant. Dans cette perspective, notre article met l'accent sur l'aspect argumentatif et polyphonique de l'énoncé proverbial. Notre travail et nos questions de recherche s’articulent autour de l’effet et du reflet polyphonique et argumentatif du discours sentencieux, dans le roman de Yasmina Khadra intitulé Ce que le jour doit à la nuit.
