المستخلص: تشكل دراسات إيزوتسو في فهم القرآن علامة فارقة في تاريخ الدراسات الحديثة، بما حظي به من اهتمام الباحثين المسلمين، وتمثل هذه الدراسات واحدة من المحطات الرئيسة التي يمكن أن تشكل قاعدة للنقاش العلمي في إشكالية التعامل مع المناهج الحديثة التي أنتجتها الحداثة الغربية، ومدى ملاءمتها التفسير وتحليل النصوص الدينية العربية وفهمها، ولا سيما القرآن الكريم، وقد تتبع هذا البحث تطور الدراسات والأعمال العلمية التي قام بها إيزوتسو خلال سني عمره المديد، وحاول فهم الدوافع التي قادته إلى البحث في القرآن الكريم، وسبب اختياره أدوات ومصادر بعينها، والاستنتاجات التي وصل إليها، والأهداف التي كان يسعى للوصول إليها في هذه الدراسات، ومن الواضح أن أغراض الدراسة القرآنية فلسفية تتعلق بفهم الثقافة العربية والإسلامية والعقل العربي الذي كون هذه الثقافة وكونته؛ لذا ركزت أبحاث إيزوتسو في القرآن الكريم على "رؤية العالم"، و"المفاهيم الأخلاقية"، وهي موضوعات فلسفية صرف، وعلى الرغم من الاهتمام الذي حظيت بها دراسات إيزوتسو للقران الكريم في أوساط الاستشراق والدارسين المسلمين؛ نظر إليها بتشكك في جدواها ومدى ملاءمة هذا النوع من الدراسة اللسانية للقرآن الكريم.

Izutsu's studies in understanding the Qur'an constitute a milestone in the history of modern studies, with the interest they received from Muslim researchers. These studies represent oqne of the main platforms that can form a basis for academic discussion on the issue of dealing with western modern approaches and their suitability for interpretation and analysis of Arabic religious texts and their intrepretations, and inparticular the Holy Qur'an. This research traced the development of studies and academic works carried out by Izutsu during his lifetime. It tried to understand the motives that led him to research on the Holy Qur'an, the reason for choosing certain tools and sources, the conclusions he reached, and goals Which he was seeking to achieve in these studies. It is apparent that the purposes of the Qur'anic study are philosophical. It is to understand the Arab and Islamic culture and the Arab psyche that created and formed this culture. Hence, Izutsu's research on the Holy Qur'an had focused on "worldview" and "moral concepts", which are purely philosophical topics. Nonetheless, the usefulness and the appropriateness of this type of linguistic study of the Holy Qur'an is still viewed with scepticism.

Kajian Izutsu dalam memahami Al-Quran merupakan satu pencapaian penting dalam sejarah pengajian moden, berdasarkan respon yang diterima daripada kumpulan penyelidik Muslim. Kajian-kajian tersebut merupakan salah satu platform utama yang merupakan asas untuk perbincangan akademik tentang pendekatan moden barat dan kesesuaiannya untuk tafsiran dan analisis teks Islamik dan pentafsirannya, khususnya Al-Quran. Penyelidikan ini menyorot perkembangan kajian dan karya akademik yang dihasilkan oleh Izutsu semasa hayatnya. Ia cuba memahami motif yang mendorong beliau untuk menyelidik Al-Quran, sebab memilih alat kajian tertentu dan rujukan yang digunakan oleh beliau, kesimpulan yang dirumuskan serta matlamat yang ingin dicapai dalam kajian tersebut. Kesimpulannya ialah, tujuan mengkaji al-Quran adalah berkaitan dengan falsafah. Ia adalah untuk memahami budaya Arab dan Islam serta minda Arab yang mendukung budaya ini. Oleh itu, penyelidikan Izutsu tentang Al Quranadalah lebih tertumpu kepada ‘pandangan sarwa’ dan ‘konsep moral, yang merupakan perbahasan falsafah semata-mata. Oleh itu, kegunaan dan kesesuaian jenis kajian linguistik Al-Quran seperti yang dirintis beliau masih lagi dilihat dengan ragu.
