المستخلص: Rwanda experienced in 1994 one of the worst genocides – against Tutsis - of the 20th century, characterized by nearly a million deaths and an extraordinary flow of refugees, with hundreds of women among them. Today, the country is rising from its ashes and we can observe considerable progress. These social and economic advances were carried out by the RPF regime, in power since 1994, as part of post-conflict reconstruction. This process was also carried out by women, who took charge of themselves and of the future of their country. This article highlights the role played by Rwandan women after the genocide, focusing on their commitment and activities. It is intended to be a contribution to understanding the issue of gender in violence and post conflict situations, in particular the remarkable fight led by women who survived the worst of violence.

Le Rwanda a connu en 1994 l’un des pires génocides du 20e siècle, celui des Tutsis, avec près d’un million de morts et un flux extraordinaire de réfugiés, parmi lesquels des centaines de milliers de femmes. Aujourd’hui, on constate des avancées économiques et sociales considérables dans le pays. Mises en place dans le cadre d’une reconstruction postconflit, ces avancées ont été portées par le régime du FPR, au pouvoir depuis 1994. Ce processus a été assuré également par des femmes, qui ont pris en main leur avenir et celui de leur pays. Le présent article met en lumière le rôle joué par les femmes rwandaises après le génocide en se focalisant sur leurs engagements et leurs activités. Il se veut une contribution à la compréhension de la question du genre dans les situations de violence et de post-conflit, notamment le combat remarquable mené par des femmes ayant vécu les pires des violences.
