المستخلص: The present article mainly analyzes the identity formation of male characters in the novel West of the Jordan (2003) written by Leila Halaby. It examines the struggle of Arab American male protagonists to find a space for themselves within their families in the aftermath of the events of 9/11. This article makes a new inquiry in which it joins a literature written by women to the study of Arab American masculinities. To do so, it explores particularly the unsettlement of traditional manhoods placed in the metaphorical border between the Arab world and the United States, as well as the role of feminism in doing so. Leila Halaby's West of the Jordan (2003) places Arab male characters in a diasporic setting in the United States and allows for a tracing of the construction of Arab masculinity in the post-9/11 United States.
