المستخلص: The paper examines the history and the evolution of the British Labour Party, and its development from 1979 to 1997, and how far its intellectual and ideological vision, as well as its organizational structure, evolved, as it became again a key player in British politics. The paper will cover the period from the election defeat of 1979 to 1983, examining the Party under the leadership of James Callaghan and Michael Foot. It will look at the Party from 1992 until the eve of the 1997 general election, during which time the Party had been led first by John Smith until his death in 1994, and then by Tony Blair. As well as, it will cope with the reasons why the Party was able to recover so successfully in the 1990s from the disasters of the 1980s
