|a Agricultural technology is changing rapidly. Farming machinery, products are constantly being improved. Studies show that, PV systems in agriculture are the best solutions to the remote areas agricultural need. The solar power pumping system can be used in remote or rural areas in Valley where electricity is not that much available. Solar powered pumping system can be used for irrigations or for delivering water. The main idea of this thesis is to propose an estimated PVWP system in a farmland area in Jordan. The system is designed based on the lowest monthly value of solar radiation during the year, which is January. An agricultural crop with high water consumption, which is Alfalfa, is selected for the study. The aim of choosing low radiation value and high consumption of water, is to design a system capable of producing electricity to draw enough water to irrigate the most agricultural crops during the whole year. The proposed system is capable of withdrawing (120) cubic meters of water from a well of (174) meter depth within six hours on a day with low solar radiation. This means that in summer and sunny days we have surplus energy that can be tapped by storing water or electricity. The storage way idea is discussed in the conclusion. The cost of withdrawing water using the proposed system is calculated and compared with the cost of withdrawing water by using a diesel-powered system. The water withdrawal cost per cubic meter was (0.04 US$) and (0.15 US$) for the proposed system and the a diesel-powered system, respectively. In addition to reducing the water withdrawal cost, the environmental advantages of using such systems are the more important issues. Another idea is discussed in the thesis, which is to use the PVT system instead of using the PV system. The advantage of using the PVT system ensures the exploitation of solar energy to produce thermal energy and use it to supply hot water for the residents in case of existing a residential area near the determined agricultural area. The results show that the electrical efficiency by using the PVT system is lower than in the case of using the PV system. But, the deficit in the electrical energy produced is compensated by the thermal energy produced.
