المستخلص: أدت السفارة العثمانية دورا مهما لنقل مظاهر التمدن الغربي إلى الدولة العثمانية إذ ظهرت بعض أفكار الإصلاح المتأثرة بالمدنية الغربية؛ وعلى الرغم من عدم شمولية تلك الأفكار إلا أنها ساهمت بصورة وأخرى في بلورة مفاهيم إصلاحية جديدة طالت مؤسسات الدولة. نشطت حركة السفارات العثمانية في الدول الأوروبية؛ فأعطت عمقا وبعدا لمفهوم تغريب الدولة، وكان لتقارير السفراء العثمانيين دور مؤثر ساهم في نقل مظاهر المدنية الغربية إلى الدولة آنذاك. ومما عمق فكرة الاتجاه للغرب والنقل عنه هو أن عددا غير قليل من الساسة العثمانيين قد تأثروا بمظاهر المدنية الغربية ونمط الحياة الاجتماعية الأوربية التي هي من نتاج عصر النهضة؛ فحملوا أفكارا جديدة كانت تدور في فلك التغريب، وأبرزت أوجه الاختلاف في نمط الحياة الاجتماعية ومظاهر التمدن الغربي عن الدولة العثمانية. فوجهت الأنظار إلى مظهر التطور من دون جوهره وعمقت لدى رجال الدولة العثمانية فكرة الأخذ بمظاهر هذه المدنية الغربية.
