المستخلص: تبدو المدينة للوهلة الأولى تجميعا هائلا لأشخاص وأفكار وأنشطة ومجالات وحقول وأشياء. تبدو صهرا للاختلاف وخلقا للوحدة، للهوية الحضرية. تبدو، باعتبارها شكلا من أشكال الاجتماع الإنساني، وصلا وربطا، خلقا لنسيج مبدع من مواد وخامات يصعب التوليف بيها. لقد استطاعت المدينة أن تستقطب في مدارها مجموعات العالم الأكثر بعدا كما استطاعت أن تؤلف بين مجالات، وأناس وأنشطة متعددة لتجعل منها عالما منظما، يقول وورث. لكن هذا الوصل، هذا التوليف والتجميع الذي وصفه علماء اجتماع من قبيل فيبر ويبشر، يخفي خلفه حقيقة أعمق هي الفصل. المدينة أجزاء ومقاطع وتراتبيات. إنها قلب ومركز ومحيط وهامش. وبقدر ما تجهد من أجل التقريب والتجميع تبرع في الإبعاد والعزل والتمييز. بل لربما كان أكثر الجنوح لبناء التمايزات وحفظها. ولربما كان النسيج الحضري، الذي يحاك بمشقة، دون القدرة على رتق الفوارق والمسافات بين مختلف العناصر الحضرية، أو بالأحرى دون القدرة على عدم تقطيع أواصر الواحد أصلا. فهل يكون الفصل الحضري هو حقيقة كل عيش حضري؟ هل هو أصلي؟ هل ينمو مع المدينة؟ هل يخلق أم يقتل المدينة؟ سنحاول في هذا المقال تبين الفصل الحضري وتفهم كيف يحدث وكيف يؤثر في المجال والعيش الحضريين، وذلك من منظور الإيكولوجيا البشرية التي تبلورت في إطار ما أصبح يصطلح عليه بمدرسة شيكاغو.

At first glance, the city appears to be an enormous collection of people, ideas, activities, arenas, fields and things. It seems like a fusion of difference and a creation of unity, of urban identity. It is a form of human meeting; they seem to create a creative web of materials that are difficult to synthesize. "The city has been able to attract in its orbit the groups of the world most distant, and it has also been able to combine various fields, people and activities to make it an organized world," said Worth. But this conjunction and synthesis described by sociologists such as Weber and Becher, conceals behind it a deeper truth of separation. The city has parts, sections, and ordinances. It is the heart, the center, the ocean, and the margin. As much as it strives for rapprochement and grouping, it excels in exclusion, isolation and discrimination. Rather, it was perhaps the most inclined to build and preserve distinctions. Perhaps the urban fabric, which is painstakingly woven, without the ability to bridge the differences and distances between the various urban elements, or rather without the ability not to break the bonds of one at all. Could urban segregation be the reality of all urban living? Is it original? Does it grow with the city? In this article, we will try to clarify urban segregation and understand how it occurs and how it affects the urban sphere and living, from the perspective of human ecology that crystallized in the framework of what has come to be called the Chicago School.
