المستخلص: The aim of this paper is to present the status and the evolution of historical writing through the different periods of the Islamic civilization the until stage of maturity found in the writing of Tabari and Beladhrin the eighth century. We can distinguish between three stages in the evolution of historical knowledge during the Arabic civilization; in the early Islam the main issue was to write up different narration and hadith from different resources, in the second period some monographies were established about some families and dynasties. Finally in the last period was the emergence of history as discipline with the first historians such Tabari and Beladhrin. In this paper we emphasis the role of the Abassids in promoting; the historical writing as source of political and religious legitimacy against the opponents during the ninth century.
