المستخلص: In this research, we attempt to shed light on the image that Pierre Loti has of himself in relation to the “Other”; as well as the image he has of the “Other” in relation to himself. The question related to this two- dimensional relationship will automatically be clarified. It is mainly translated here by the difference, the feeling homesick, and the enjoyment. To respond to this problematic, we referred to Freud’s psychoanalysis theory, as well as to the oneiric poetics of Gaston Bachelard. The study reveals the existence of the “Other” as an essential aspect to feed Loti’s imagination, that the power of his memories and his dreams begins to be elicited by this “Other” as being the dream itself and arousing the dream at the same time. This is his leitmotiv, and homesick feeling is not an objective in itself; it is only a means of accessing this imaginary revived by the “Other”.

Par la présente recherche nous essayons de montrer l’image que Pierre Loti se fait de lui-même par rapport à l’autre mais également celle qu’il se fait de l’autre par rapport à lui-même. La question se rapportant à cette relation bidimensionnelle va automatiquement être éclaircie. Elle est traduite principalement ici par la différence, le dépaysement, et la jouissance. Afin de répondre à cette problématique un recours à la psychanalyse de Freud nous a paru utile ainsi qu’à la poétique de la rêverie de Gaston Bachelard. Cette étude débouche sur le fait que l’existence de l’autre est primordiale pour nourrir l’imaginaire de Loti, que le moteur de ses souvenirs et ses rêves commence à se déclencher grâce à cet autre comme étant le rêve-lui même et suscitant le rêve à la fois. C’est son leitmotiv. Et que le dépaysement n’est pas un but en soi, ce n’est qu’un moyen pour accéder à cet imaginaire ravivé par l’autre.
