يتناول البحث العناصر الأدبية التي تربط الشاعرة الروسية مارينا تستيفا (1892-1941) بالشعر الحديث. فبالرغم من تزايد الدراسات حول شعرها فإن الدراسة الحالية وجدت أن تلك الدراسات لم تلتفت إلى عناصر الحداثة في شعرها من أجل تحليل مساهمتها في الحداثة وبالتالي إعطاءها المكانة التي تستحقها بين شعراء الموروث الأدبي. ومن أجل تحقيق الأهداف، تستعرض الدراسة الخصائص الأدبية التي تربطها مع شعراء الحداثة ومن ثم تقارن بعض قصائدها مع قصيدتين للشاعر البريطاني وليم بتلر بيتس من أجل إثبات وجود عناصر من الأدب الحديث في شعرها وبغرض شرح مساهمتها في الحداثة. ويأمل البحث أن تكون هذه الدراسة فاتحة لدراسات أخرى ينتج عنها إعطاء الشاعرة المكانة التي تستحقها بين شعراء عصرها خاصة وشعراء الأدب العالمي بشكل عام.
The study recognizes that the work of Marina Tsvetaeva manifests important aspects of modernism in poetry. However, despite the steady increase in the volume of the scholarship on her work, a lacuna continues to exist. The scholarship on her work has neither investigated the modern elements in her work, nor has it revealed her contribution to the literary tradition with the aim of designating Tsvetaeva a position within the tradition. By clarifying the aspects of modernism in her poetry, as well as her contribution to modern poetry, the study hopes to pave the way for other scholars to pursue the same path in order to determine whether or not Tsvetaeva is a modern poet, and evaluate her position among other modernists, even though Tsvetaeva denies that she belongs to any of the poetic groups of her age. To achieve its purposes, the study briefly explains the aspects of modernism that correspond with Tsvetaeva's poetry. Next, the study provides textual evidence of the aspects of modernism in her poetry by comparing W. B. Yeats's complementary poems, "Sailing to Byzantium" and "Byzantium" with three of Tsvetaeva's poems from her cycle of” Poems to Block" to determine the extent of her indebtedness and her contribution to modern poetry.
