المستخلص: يسلط هذا البحث الضوء على وظائف الوصف العجائبي لأول مدونة رحلية لرحالة عربي وطأت قدماه أرض البرازيل خصوصا، وأمريكا الجنوبية عموما، وهي رحلة ظلت طي النسيان إلى وقت قريب، حيث كان نشرها من بواكير ثمار التعاون الثقافي بين الدول العربية ودول أمريكا اللاتينية، وتركز الدراسة على التعريف بشخصية البغدادي، وظروف رحلته، كما تكشف عن أهمية مدونة "مسلية الغريب ..." والجهود السابقة في تحقيقها ودراستها، وتقف وقفه متأنية عند مفهوم مصطلح "العجائبي" وحضوره في رحلة البغدادي، وذلك من خلال النظرية العربية، دونما تجاهل لما أنجزته النظريات الغربية في هذا الحقل، كما ركز البحث على وظائف الوصف العجائبي الأبرز في مسلية الغريب، وتناولها من وجهة نظر تداولية وظائفية، وهي الوظيفة الإخبارية، والوظيفة الإقناعية، والوظيفة المعرفية. وهذه الدراسة هي أول دراسة أدبية تسلط الضوء على رحلة البغدادي، ومن أبرز ما رصدته لنا أن جلت النظرة العربية والإسلامية الأولي لباحث مثقف ومطلع على العديد من اللغات، عاش في بلاد قصية مدة ثلاث سنوات، تعايش خلالها مع أتباع الدين الإسلامي من الأفارقة المهجرين من بلدانهم عنوة، وكذا أتباع العديد من الديانات الأخرى، والشعوب المجهولة في غابات الأمازون، واصفا معالم الدهشة، وراويا ما وقعت عليه عيناه من كل غريب سلاه في وحدته، أو عجيب أمتعه في رحلته.

This study highlights the functions of fantasy description for the first travel diary of an Arab traveler who set his foot in Brazil specifically, and South America in general, which is a journey that has remained unknown until recently. It was published as a result of the recent cooperation between Arab countries and the countries of Latin America. This study intends to introduce the character of Al- Baghdadi, and the circumstances related to his journey. The study also indicates the importance of said log, namely “Musaliyat Al-Ghareeb” and the previous efforts which have been exerted to scrutinize and examine such log. This study will deliberately dwell on the concept of “fantasy” and its presence in Al- Baghdadi’s journey, in accordance with the Arabic theory without ignoring the achievements of Western theories in this domain. The research also focuses on the most outstanding functions of fantasy description in “Musaliyat Al- Ghareeb”, and studied it from the deliberative function perspective, which is the informative function, persuasive functions, and epistemological functions. This is the first literary study to highlight Al- Baghdadi’s journey. The most conspicuous features of this journey is that it reveals the first Arabic and Islamic consideration of a civilized and well- informed researcher, with knowledge of several languages, who lived in remote country for three years, where he coexisted with the followers of Islamic faith, namely Africans who were forcibly displaced from their homeland, as well as followers of other religions, and unknown peoples who were living in the Amazon forests. The man described the amazing landmarks, and recounted all the unusual and wonderful events which he experienced during his journey, or the strange thing that amazed him in his journey.
