| 520 | |b On March 20, 2018, Algeria established an exclusive economic zone off its coasts. This institution will allow the Algerian State to exercise sovereign rights and jurisdiction over this space relating to the exploration and exploitation of natural resources as well as to the conservation and protection of the marine environment. However, the creation of this zone could lead to maritime disputes, mainly following to discoveries of offshore oil and gas fields, making the Mediterranean Sea the new hydrocarbon "Eldorado" in the region. |d Le 20 mars 2018, l’Algérie instituait une zone économique exclusive au large de ses côtes. Cette institution lui permettra d’exercer des droits souverains et une juridiction sur ladite zone relatifs à l’exploration et l’exploitation des ressources naturelles ainsi qu’à la conservation et protection de l’environnement marin. Toutefois, la création de cet espace pourra entrainer des différends maritimes, essentiellement suite aux découvertes de gisements de pétrole et de gaz offshore, faisant de la méditerranée le nouvel « Eldorado » des hydrocarbures dans la région. | ||
