المستخلص: الدكتور مصطفى جواد شخصية علمية فذة، تفتحت طفولته على سماع النصوص التراثية المهمة، يستقصي شواردها ويتتبع نوادرها، وقد تجاوز مرحلته العمرية في الفهم والاستيعاب والخطابة والتأليف والنقد والمراجعة والتصحيح، فنال لعلمه وتميز نشاطه عضوية المجامع اللغوية العربية. آمن بتطور اللغة وبإمكان انتقالها من حال إلى حال، وذلك بالمراجعة الشاملة لما يتداول في هذا العصر، والاستعانة بالمشهور من كلام العرب، ومألوف عباراتهم، ومظان بيانهم، وواضح مناهجهم، والقياس على كلامهم، وهذا هو سبيله في الارتقاء والانتقال والتطوير. والحديث عن الدكتور مصطفى جواد يستجلب التذكير بالمبدعين العراقيين من أساتذته وأقرانه وتلامذته، فقد كان امتدادا للزهاوي وأنستاس ماري الكرملي والرصافي وطه الراوي والشبيبي ومكملا لمحمد مهدي البصير وجواد علي وأحمد سوسة وجواد سليم وطه باقر، ومعلما لعلي الوردي ومحمد مكية ونازك الملائكة وعلي جواد الطاهر وعبد الوهاب البياتي وغيرهم. وكانت روح الدكتور مصطفى جواد قد تعلقت بمحبة اللغة وكبرت معه العناية بها، وقد منحه الباري: سرعة الحفظ، وقوة التذكر، والقابلية المدهشة في الاستيعاب، أتمها بالمتابعة الدقيقة، فاتسعت لذلك ثروته اللغوية واقتربت من الإحاطة بما فيها، وقد امتلك أسرارها ودقائقها، وسحر بيانها، وسعة اشتقاقها، حتى عد من عمالقتها البارزين في هذا العصر. ومن منجزاته الكبيرة أن جعل الفصحى برنامجا ناجحا يتلقاه العامة من الناس، بنكهة عراقية بغدادية محببة، وقابلية مدهشة في الاستطراد التاريخي بذكر الحوادث والشخوص والمدن والقصبات العراقية، واللذاذة بترديده أسماء محلات بغداد ومساجدها ومدارسها وعقودها وأبوابها ومواضعها على خرائط ابتكرها، قديمة كأنها حديثة؟! وقد طبع بطابع الإخلاص لهذه اللغة ولمجتمعها، حتى أنه وهو يصارع سكرات الموت، يراجع كتابه (قل ولا تقل)، إنه مصطفى جواد موسوعة علوم، وموهبة أداء، وحضور جواب، وسرعة بديهة، أو قل بثقة ومن دون تردد: إنه (نسيج وحده)، أو كما قيل: (رجل بمجمع.. ومجمع برجل).

Dr. Mustafa Jawad “1904-1969” had a unique scientific personality, his childhood started with listening to important traditional texts. He spent his life in studying, understanding, comprehension, rhetoric, authoring, criticism, revision and correction and investigating Arab language’s anecdotes and tracing its strays that lead to receive acknowledgement and distinguished membership in many Academies of Arabic language. He believed in the viability of Arabic language and ability for its modernization, by comprehensively reviewing of what is being used in this era, referring to well-known, familiar expressions and analogy with their words as a way of advancement, transition and development. Talking about Dr. Mustafa Jawad evokes a reminder of Iraqi pioneers from his teachers, peers and his students, he was an extension of Zahawi, Anastas Marie Al-Karmali, Al- Rusafi, Taha Al-Rawi and Al-Shibibi, complementing work of Muhammad Mahdi Al-Basir, Jawad Ali, Ahmed Soussa, Jawad Salim and Taha Baqer, and a teacher for Ali Al-Wardi, Muhammad Makiya, Nazik Al-Malaika, Ali Jawad Al-Tahir, Abd Al-Wahhab Al-Bayati and others. The spirit of Dr. Mustafa Jawad was overwhelmed with Arabic language and grew with him in caring for it, and Al- Bari gave him: The speed of memorization, the strength of memory and the amazing ability to absorb its details, with careful follow-up, thus his linguistic wealth expanded to become close to encompassing its secrets and subtleties, and the charm of the language, until he was considered one of its prominent figures in this era. Among his great achievements was a TV and Radio program (Say and Do not Say) merging classical Arabic with Baghdadi slang, it received audience from all over Arab countries and still remembered as one of the heritage of Arabic language, in which he mentioned Iraqi incidents, characters, cities and towns with pleasure repeating the old names of Baghdad’s shops, mosques, schools, contracts, doors and locations in a new approach by drawing a map containing the old and new names. It had been imprinted with the character of sincerity to this language and to its society. Last but not the least, during his wrestling with death, he was murmuring his book (Say and Do not Say), he was an encyclopedia of sciences, and a talent of performance, a promptness of intuition, or say with confidence and without hesitation: he was (alone), or as it was said: (A man in an Academy … and an Academy in a man).
