|a انتشر أدب الرحلة كأسلوب أدبي في ميدان دراسات ما بعد الاستعمار لأنه يهتم بالتصويرات الخطابية لمختلف الثقافات والشعوب، والتي تبرز اللقاء الثقافي المشترك والمعقد بين الرحال وما يسمى بالغيرية. وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل نصوص أدب الرحلة الغربية التي تتناول بلاد الشرق وتجسد الجهاز الإمبريالي الذي ينشر المعرفة الكولونيالية والمليئة بالتصويرات الثقافية المشوهة حول البلدان الشرقية البعيدة. وبالتالي، فإن هذه الدراسة ترمي إلى إظهار أن المشروع الإمبريالي؛ الذي يضع الشرق في صورة ذليلة، غير مكتمل وتعتريه عدة اختلالات ناتجة عن التقطعات الخطابية المتواصلة التي تتضمنها نصوص أدب الرحلة الغربية. وتضع هذه الدراسة كذلك علامة استفهام حول التضارب الذي يشهده الخطاب الكولونيالي في نصوص الرحلة، كما أنها تدقق في العلامات المناهضة للاستعمار مما يحبط الجمود الذي يخيم على الاستشراق من خلال تعزيز خطاب آخر بديل.
|b Travel writing as a literary genre has proliferated within the domain of postcolonial studies as it underpins discursive representations of different cultures and peoples which disclose a complicated cross-cultural encounter between the traveler s and what is termed as alterity. Through this study, I intend to analyze Western travel narratives writing the Orient as an imperialist apparatus which disseminates colonial knowledge about far-away Eastern countries which is fraught with distorted cultural representations. Therefore, I argue that this imperialist project of painting the East in a submissive fashion is rendered incomplete and deficient due to the constant discursive interruptions Western travel narratives incorporate. Equally important, this paper interrogates the inconsistency of the colonial discourse constructed in these narratives, and profoundly probes for sings of native anti-colonial resistance, thus undermining the essentialism inherent in Orientalism while providing an alternative discourse.
