المستخلص: شهد العالم اليوناني والروماني أمثلة على وجود علاقة حب طاغ دفعت زعيم الدولة أحيانا إلى القيام بخطوة عسكرية أو سياسية غير محسوبة، فكانت الخطوة إذعانا لميول امرأته المحبوبة سواء أكانت معشوقته من غير زواج كما في حالة الزعيم الأثيني بيريكليس ومحظيته أسباسيا عندما تدخل عسكريا ضد ساموس لصالح وطنها ميليتوس. وفي أحيان أخرى كانت المحبوبة هي زوجته الثانية كما في حالة الملك البطلمي بطلميوس الثاني وأرسينوي الثانية عندما تحالف مع أثينا واسبرطة وبعض المدن اليونانية ضد مقدونيا التي ضاع فيها حلمها. وفي حالة ثالثة نجد الحبيبة هي زوجته الشرعية كما في حالة الملك النوميدي سيفاكس وسوفونيسبا عندما نقض تحالفه مع روما وتحالف وحارب مع وطنها قرطاجة ضد حليفته السابقة في الحرب البونية الثانية. ولا شك أن سياسة هؤلاء الزعماء الأقوياء في دولهم قد تأثرت بشكل أو بآخر بأولئك النسوة في بعض قراراتهم السياسية المهمة خلال فترة ارتباطهم بهن؛ خاصة وأن النساء الثلاثة كن يتمتعن كما تذكر المصادر بقدر كبير من الدهاء والذكاء السياسي، لكن هذه الدراسة تتناول القرارات السياسية التي اتخذت- بدرجة كبيرة -خضوها لرغبة المرأة الملحة والتي تخدم نزعتها وطموحها وانتماءها في المقام الأول مع وضع الاعتبارات الأخرى في المقام الثاني، مما سيكون له بالطبع أثر على حياة الزعماء السياسية.

The Greek and Roman world witnessed examples of infatuation that prompted the leader of a country to take an uncalculated military or political move. It was a step of submission to the inclinations of his beloved woman whether this love was out of wedlock, as in the case of the Athenian leader Pericles and his mistress Aspasia when he intervened militarily against Samos for the benefit of her homeland Miletus. In another example the beloved lady was his second wife, as in the case of the Ptolemaic king Ptolemy II of Arsinoe II when he allied himself with Athens, Sparta and some Greek cities against Macedon in which her dream was lost. In the third case the beloved woman was the legal wife of the leader, as in the case of the Numidian king Syphax and Sophonisba when he broke his alliance with Rome and fought with her homeland, Carthage, against his former ally in the second Punic war. There is no doubt that the politics of these powerful leaders in their countries has been influenced in one way or another by those women in some of their crucial political decisions during the period of their association with those women; especially since the three women had, as the sources mentioned, a great deal of political cunning and intelligence. This study deals with the political decisions and their military consequences that were taken by such infatuated leaders in submission, in the first place, to the urgent desire of those women without careful consideration of other important aspects of the surrounding circumstances at their times which they marginalized. This led, of course, to some negative consequences which had unfavorable and harmful impact on the career, and even the life, of such leaders and badly affected their nations.
