"يختص هذا البحث بالمعبودتين ماتيت ومحيت منذ بداية الأسرات وحتى العصرين اليوناني والروماني، وقد أدت كل منهما دورا مهما في الديانة المصرية القديمة. وقد ظهرت عبادة المعبودة محيت منذ القدم وبخاصة منذ عهد الملك وادجي من الأسرة الأولى على أختام الجرار الفخارية في هيئة حيوانية كاملة اللبؤة (أنثى الأسد) وكذلك في عصر الدولة القديمة على لوحات ""حسي رع"" و ""وب إم نفرت""، وأيضا في عصري الدولة الوسطى والحديثة حتى العصرين اليوناني والروماني وبخاصة في معبدي إدفو ودندرة، وكان لها كهنتها الخاصة منذ القدم، واختلفت هيئة المعبودة محيت على مدار فترات التاريخ المصري القديم وكذلك المعبودة ماتيت التي صورت أيضا في هيئة اللبؤة وانتشرت عبادتها منذ عصر الدولة القديمة على أقل تقدير واستمرت حتى العصرين اليوناني والروماني، فكان لابد من التفريق بين المعبودتين وتوضيح الاختلاف بينهما؛ نظرا لتشابهن الكبير من حيث الهيئة وأيضا الأدوار الدينية المقدسة. أما عن التصوير الحيواني لهاتين المعبودتين فيمكن القول: إن الحيوانات أدت دورا مهما في حياة المصري القديم سواء من خلال خدمته بشكل مباشر في أعماله اليومية أم من خلال حمايته مما دفعه وبقوة لإعطائها مساحة كبيرة من التصوير على جدران المقابر والمعابد، ومما دفعه أيضا للاعتقاد أن هذه الحيوانات لن تتوقف عن هذا الدور في خدمته وحمايته بالعالم الآخر. ويسعى هذا البحث إلى إلقاء مزيد من الضوء والتعريف بهاتين المعبودتين (ماتيت ومحيت) ودورهما الديني منذ القدم وحتى نهاية العصرين اليوناني والروماني حيث ظهرت هاتان المعبودتان بشكل كبير في ذلك الوقت."
"This research is concerned with the two goddesses, Matite and Mehit, from the beginning of the dynasties until the Greek and Roman periods, and each of them played an important role in the ancient Egyptian religion.
